Crosby Pit Mines

The Crosby Open Pit Mines were part of the Cyuna Range and were heavily mined for iron ore and manganese.  First mined in the 1900's , the last shipment left in 1982 and have since been donated for public use.  Prior to filling these mine pits had trees and shrubs growing along the steep banks.  Once filled with spring water these pits offer unique terrain including: submerged forest, plateaus, drop-offs, canyons, boulders...Unlike Wazee, there are several pits to choose from and each mine has its own unique style.  Many pits offer excellent visibility and are stocked with game fish.

Distance from Maple Grove is apx. 100 miles North, and apx. 2 1/2 hours trave time.  Crosby is a wild open space and is not patrolled by the county, there are many roads and trails that are not maintained.  No facilities are provided at the pits, although the area is a tourist destination and hotels / motels and campgrounds are a short distance from the pits.
